‘The Park’ expands bottling services

Known as ‘The Park’, the greenfield site based near Bristol is owned by Accolade but has diversified its business to both utilise filling and load space, and boost revenues.

The site is recognised by the Carbon Trust as a carbon neutral facility. It claims to use 100% renewable energy and is currently working with its supplier to package fully recycled glass bottles, saving approximately 186,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
Richard Lloyd, general manager, European operations and supply chain, told Packaging News The Park packages one million bottles and 150,000 bags of wine daily, accounting for 25% of all wine sold in the UK.
The site employs over 450 staff from the local areas, and increased headcount by 9% in 2021.

The Park works with many of the UK’s leading supermarkets and currently working with many of the top 20 wine brands in the UK, such as Jam Shed, Iheart, Hardys and 19 Crimes.

Lloyd said: “We made decision to become an independent facility. We package all of Accolade Wines but we have capacity to package for others since 18 months ago. There are eight other businesses that we package for.

“It’s all about maximising your load-fill. Loads will leave here with a number of the top 20 brands in the UK, some of them owned by Accolade and some by other businesses – they are all packaged here. If you can get 2.5 times as much in a container, it is less in shipping costs and fewer containers moving around the world.”
